Assignment 1 Part A
The above image is an advertisement by the company McDonald’s. It is located in North Hills shopping center in Kamloops, BC. The company was first opened on May 15, 1940, in California.
The logo of the company is an M-coloured yellow which stands for McDonald’s. It’s supported by a board in red which reads ‘McDonald’s, over 99 billion served”. Some people believed the golden M stands for arches that go straight up to heaven. The large size of the sign makes it distinct from other brands due to its uniqueness.
It is proven scientifically that the colours red and yellow tend to stimulate hunger in people by releasing neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin which gives us pleasure.
The aim of the company was to create a “Speedee Service System” which meant producing meals in a fast way. Hence, the Hamburger was invented. Products are offered as either “dine-in” (where the customer opts to eat in the restaurant) or “take-out”(where the customer opts to take the food off the premises).
This advert is located by the major road. Hence, it is very easy to spot. Like I mentioned earlier, due to the stimulating effect a person can get from just a gaze at the advert board due to the effect of the happy hormones released. One may end up becoming addicted to the pleasure derived from eating fast foods. McDonald’s have their meals highly processed less fibrous, unlike healthy foods. This means the food is digested quickly and can be addictive due to the sugary and fatty compositions.
McDonald’s is the world’s largest restaurant chain by revenue, serving over 69 million customers daily in over 100 countries across 37,855 outlets as of 2018. They have for years maintained an extensive advertising campaign. In addition to the media (television, radio, and newspaper), the company makes significant use of billboards and signage, also sponsoring events ranging from Little leagues to the FIFA World Cup and Olympic games.
McDonald’s runs a franchise service, allowing investors to do business under the company’s name for royalty.
Over the years, McDonald’s is best known for its hamburgers, cheeseburgers and french fries. But they have received several negative backlashes because of the unhealthiness of their food from consumers. Subsequently, McDonald’s added to its menu salads, fish, smoothies, and fruits.
In an article by Amelia Lucas written on July 16, 2019, “McDonald’s is adding door-dash as a delivery partner”. The company McDonald’s seeks to use the already existing customer profile of door-dash in all 50 states in the U.S, reaching over 80% of Americans. The company as part of the deal would have their menu available on door-dash which would generate great revenue. This is amazing for the world’s leading restaurant and fast food.
