Local Phone Repair Shop – Leading the local phone market.

 

This advertisement is from a local phone repair shop in Kamloops called, Kamloops Phone Depot located in 1210 Summit drive shopping complex. This poster was put on the glass of the store’s entrance After this caught my attention I went inside the store to actually inquire about this, since this has been one of the most leading phone repair stores in town, I had no idea that they are also selling phones. However, the owner confirmed and showed me phones of every price range and he told me that he made the poster himself. The type of advertisement used is display/print. The advertisement is trying to show that there is major sale going on unlocked phones. In very few lines the owner brilliantly cleared people’s doubt that you do not always have to go to the provider always for cellphones, that it is possible to just get the phones only and use your current sim cards. The purpose of the advertisement is to make a wider image of this local store to let the residents know that this store is also selling phones not only repairing them.

 

The description of the poster is that it is yellow and white writing on red background which is one of the good combinations to seek attention. Now we must realise that this store is also on the sidewalk and also facing a large parking lot which is shared with many other busy stores and restaurants. The poster is designed in such a way which allows readers to have a glance at it for a couple of seconds and know what it is all about. It is anywhere between 4 by 3 poster. They simply  mentioned one line and then gave their phone number if passers by do not have time to pop in to the store they may take the phone number and call about this sale. Another interesting fact is that, I asked the owner since when is the sale on? And he replied saying that this same poster has been up for more than two years now and that the sale is always ongoing. Well, with this we can figure it becomes less exciting for locals as time goes by and they also stop believing about the discounted prices.

 

According to me, it is very attractive image but not for the ones who have been seeing it regularly. It always a good idea to publicise about your variety but making the same poster up on the wall for two years makes it very less exciting. There is no denial that it does not convey the message but once an ad becomes old it does not excite people anymore. The message may remain the same but the owner should change the presentation after a few months at least.

 

Lastly I would like to relate it with the scholarly article I read, first of which is about how I think this business should focus on short term advertising goals to receive immediate response. As this business is small and local, this article suggests using both advertising schemes and how it can be effective for the small businesses. It also tells us how advertisement not only helps big businesses but have proven to be the most quick to make a small business into big by simply using these two schemes.
