Here we have this ad for The Columbia diner, a restaurant located at 555 Columbia Street, West Kamloops, B.C. It really caught my eye when I came across the print ad here on campus, while on my way to classes in the Old main building. I quickly noticed it by its colors and especially by the large number three in the center of the ad. In fact, personally, the first thing I noticed was that number and that’s why I approached the ad to see what the message was.
This ad invites TRU students to attend “Student Nights” as the title of the page says, where every Tuesday they offer sleeves of beer for $ 3 and Tito highballs for $ 3. I think this ad was in a good place, right where students come and go, so the ad is very easy to see and by its design it attracts attention at first glance.
Speaking of design, first, I like the way the colors are combined in a simple but aesthetic way. They don’t use many colors, but the ones they did use are very eye-catching. Although this ad has no picture, it does not lose its impact on people because they made good decisions with the size and color range of the letters, signs and numbers. The information is very visible and clear. At the top of the ad, we can see the title of the special nights and if we go down, we can see the dollar sign that is made with the same yellow, dark orange and light orange tones of the great and stellar number 3 and both use the same visual effect of shadow that draws a lot of attention and makes price the main point of attention. Then we have the rest of the details on “student nights” written in black and white letters with some orange accents. All this, on a spring green background.
The ad conveys a message, and it is mainly the promotion of the restaurant that I mentioned above, the day of the offer and the opening hours. This message gets across effectively to the target group who are TRU students. In evaluating this message, I would say that it really does have a good result in grabbing people’s attention.
I have visited this place thanks to its advertising, so I can say from my own experience that the ad is very attractive and makes you want to go and tell your friends to join you because the offer sounds great and makes you want to have fun instead
